This course is a unified resource designed to protect the rights of seafarers who face criminalisation following maritime incidents. Criminalisation occurs when crew members are detained, arrested, or prosecuted following a maritime incident — frequently before a full or fair investigation has even begun.
In an industry where authorities often seek immediate blame for collisions, pollution, or security events, this course provides the essential knowledge seafarers need to navigate these high-stakes legal challenges. The platform is organised into four distinct chapters that move the learner from basic awareness to active self-protection and community support.
Organizations like the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have established guidelines to promote the fair treatment of seafarers in such situations.
